You know you need a blog to get the word out about your business, but many small business owners aren’t sure where to start when writing a blog post. How long does your blog post content need to be? What topics should you write about? How do you create notable, attention-grabbing titles and content to share with your community?

Blogpost Writing Tip #1: Start with a Great Topic

To start writing your blog post for your small business, you’ll want to choose a fantastic topic, but where do you start? The best place to begin selecting categories and blog topics is easy! First, you'll want to grab a pen and paper and start jotting down the questions you get asked most from your clients - your frequently asked questions. Many times, your FAQ questions are common across your vertical or industry.

You’ll be surprised how many customers will be looking for the answers to these same questions. So read on for more tips on writing your blog post and how to make sure your blog helps your SEO boot!

Blogpost Writing Tip #2: Use Google Search to Find Topics to Write Your Blog

Once you’ve written down your FAQ questions, send them to a client or business associate to ask them what other questions they would ask for your business. Then, perform a google search to see which questions are most asked in your industry. You’ll likely find several of your questions may appear in a google search. This is good news! If you find your questions in a Google search, then those questions are perfect for a blog post.

If your question appears on several pages of a google search, you're in luck! The more popular your question is, the better that topic is for searchability. In other words, people searching are looking for your topic. If your question yields a popular search, then consumers are looking for an answer to that question.

If you have a topic or question that isn't popular, then try slightly changing the question. You can also look down the page to see what people are asking, similar to your inquiry. Then, read through the answers and write down any other questions sparked from reading another website’s content. Next, Google-search up those questions and repeat the process.

Now that you’ve looked up your questions and have found more questions to use as blog topics, scroll down to the bottom of the page. At the end of each search page, you’ll find suggestions on what other consumers and searchers ask on Google. Look through those topics to see if any of these Google suggestions look like a topic you would like to write about in your website blog.

Blogpost Writing Tip #3: Outline Your Blog Post for Your Business Website

Once you’ve written down a few titles for your blog post, then outline or bullet point what you’d like to say in your blog. You can create a detailed outline if you'd like; however, all you need to write a blogpost is four to five bullet points on the content topic, which will become the subheaders of your blog post. Then, expand on these subheaders with catchy content and answer the main blog topic question.

Blogpost Writing Tip #4: Create Blog Headers that Get Noticed for Your Business Website

Now that you have your topic ideas, questions to write about, an outline, so what’s next for writing your business website blogpost? Of course, before you write your post, you’ll want to ensure that your subheaders are searchable. So how can you ensure that people look for your headers and subtitles?

First, make sure you have keywords - keywords people search for on Google. You’ll want to create your entire blog around one focused keyword. However, you’ll also need to place other vital keywords into each of your headers. Although you don’t need to have the same keywords in all of your subtitles, you want to have at least one keyword in each subtitle to ensure searchability so your potential clients can find your blog posts.
